The AMRC North West, based in Samlesbury, Lancashire, plays a key role in driving regional growth, productivity and innovation, supporting technical research and development.

In partnership with Pendle Borough and South Ribble Councils, via the Shared Prosperity Fund, AMRC North West is working on a fully-funded programme for local manufacturers - SCAN Digital.

SCAN is an innovative supply chain support programme, which looks at a number of areas that manufacturers can address and the steps they can take to digitalise and adopt advanced and sustainable technologies, with the ultimate goal of building supply chain resilience.

The programme allows manufacturers to access the AMRC’s key capabilities and resources, including a state-of-the-art digital supply chain demonstrator, to support a wide range of funded projects. The projects can take the form of research and feasibility studies, knowledge transfer, data capture and analytics, and cover areas including digitalisation, automation and carbon reduction.

Over recent years, global events and market volatility have led to significant disruptions and instability within supply chains and, whilst pressures may have eased, manufacturers are still facing these challenges on a daily basis.

Through SCAN, AMRC North West is supporting manufacturers to overcome some of these current and future challenges by helping them to become more sustainable, efficient and and resilient, ultimately improve their standing within their supply chain.

Established in 1979 and based in Colne, Pennine Labels manufactures an extensive range of labels and packaging that can be found within the products of a host of major retailers. Their long list of customers includes another local business based just down the road in Nelson; Peter Reed, an established manufacturer of luxury, bespoke linens. In business since 1861, their reputation is so robust that in 2008 the business received a Royal Warrant, by appointment to Her Majesty The Queen.

With innovation and digitalisation in mind, both Pennine Labels and Peter Reed have taken the opportunity to join AMRC North West for support within the SCAN Digital programme. Their participation will support exploration of digital technologies and processes that act as a catalyst for supply chain resilience. This combined effort within the programme should support the continuation of a prosperous supply chain partnership within Pendle.
