The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) conference will explore the importance of manufacturing for the UK’s pursuit of net zero and wider growth aspirations. 

The conference will set out how the manufacturing community is supporting the technology development essential to net zero, but also how manufacturers can bear down on their own emissions.


Day 1 - AMRC Summit 2023: Welcome and dinner

7pm: Welcome at The Mowbray

7.20pm: Opening by Juergen Maier, chair of the Digital Catapult, vice-chair of the Northern Powerhouse Partnership and the co-founder of vocL and welcome speech by Steve Foxley, chief executive officer, AMRC.

7.40pm: Food is served

10.30pm: End of the event

Day 2 - AMRC Summit 2023: Net zero manufacturing

Date: Thursday, November 23, 2023 
Time: 9am - 4pm
Location: AMRC Factory 2050 (please see map here)
Dress code: Business attire


There is free parking available (70 spaces, with six having EV charging points). Additional paid parking is available at the Sheffield Business Park, which is located opposite Factory 2050.

Transportation will be provided for guests. There will be two pick-up points.

  • 8.30am pick up outside the Mercure St Paul’s entrance on Surrey Street (opposite Starbucks).
  • 8.40am pick up from Sheffield interchange bus station off Harmer lane, opposite coach stop E4-E6. 

It will be a large silver coach with the reg: FN09 AOG

It will collect guests from AMRC Factory 2050 at 4pm and return them to Sheffield interchange and the Mercure St Paul's Hotel.

 12.30–1.30pm: Tour of AMRC Factory 2050 with demonstrations from the University of Sheffield Translational Energy Research Centre

 1.30–2.30pm: Panel 2: What are the challenges and opportunities for UK manufacturers to lead the technology changes to net zero, outside of the factory walls?

 2.30–3.30pm: Panel 3: What are the challenges and opportunities for UK manufacturers to lead the transition to net zero, within the factory walls?

3.30–4pm: Closing remarks and pledge by Steve Foxley, chief executive officer, University of Sheffield AMRC
