Workshop: Data-Driven Design in Manufacturing

01 October 2024 - 01 October 2024

In the context of digital transformation, the challenges businesses face are increasingly complex, specifically around data and artificial intelligence technologies.

Despite having more data available as a resource than ever before, firms often need support to utilise them in designing new products, services, and user experiences. We will bring the manufacturing and design industry together through a workshop to explore innovation opportunities, utilising data with design approaches for manufacturing.

The workshop will be split into two interactive sessions:

In the first session, a Data-driven Design Framework will be presented- that outlines the main activities where data is used to design. The groups will then share and learn how data is used in the New Product Development Process based on the Data-Driven Design Framework.

In the second session, groups will explore their current challenges and opportunities within their firms in employing data for design and manufacturing.

The Data-driven Design in Manufacturing Workshop is organised by Prof Saeema Ahmed-Kristensen, Dr Ji Han and Dr Pingfei Jiang from the DIGIT Lab, a £12.7M EPSRC funded Next Stage Digital Economy Research Centre, University of Exeter in collaboration with David King and Scott Herod from The University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC).
