Tuesday 8th March 2016 at the AMRC KTC

Jet turbine blades 300 200Grinding and surface finishing operations can account for 20-25 per cent of cost on all machining operations.

In the past grinding has been primarily relegated to machining for final dimensional accuracy and surface finish, but that is changing thanks to recently developed techniques which greatly increase material removal rates particularly on aerospace alloys.

The introduction of next-generation materials such as ceramics, as well as the push towards ever tighter tolerances, looks set to increase the use of high-performance grinding throughout aerospace and other advanced manufacturing sectors.

The first AMRC Forum of 2016 will reveal the extent to which grinding is already being used as a mainstream machining process, discuss the technical and commercial challenges involved and examine the trends and experience of end-users and equipment providers.
